Possible Side Effects

Q. I’ve been getting terrible headaches during the first few days of my program. Should I quit?

A. It is not unusual to feel some “cleansing symptoms” during the first few days of the program. Your body is starting to withdraw from certain substances such as caffeine, sugar, etc., and the detoxification process has begun. The headaches can also be caused from lack of hydration, so make sure to be drinking enough water. Low blood sugar can also cause headaches. Don’t quit! Make sure to keep your blood sugar stabilized by using the Isagenix Snack wafers and IsaDelight chocolates throughout the day. Usually within a few days, the headaches are gone. You will start to feel better with each passing day, and before you know it, you’re going to feel fantastic.

Q. I am experiencing Nausea, why?

A. Your body is either alkaline or acidic and is always striving toward balance. Often, if the body is more acidic, the minerals in the Ionix Supreme, Shake and Cleanse for Life drink can cause a feeling of nausea in the body. This can be due to drinking caffeinated beverages such as coffee, soda pop, and alcohol. Even eating red meat (pork & beef) has been attributed to a higher acidic content in the body.

If this occurs, it helps to consume one or two of the Isagenix Snacks with a large glass of water before drinking the Ionix or Cleanse for Life. This will give the stomach a lining and helps with the digestion of the minerals. Other things you can do to help your body go alkaline and settle your stomach is having fresh lemon juice in water, a table spoon of raw organic apple cider vinegar diluted in water or a teaspoon of backing soda diluted in water.

You can also dilute the cleanse with more water. If this continues to be a problem try taking 2 ounces of Cleanse for Life drink every two hours.

Regular Cleanse: 4 ounces of Cleanse for Life drink every 4 hours, 4 times daily. (8 a.m., 12 p.m., 4 p.m., 8 p.m.)

Modified Cleanse: 2 ounces of Cleanse for Life drink every 2 hours, 8 times daily. (8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m., 10 p.m.)

Q. Why do I get cold on cleanse days?

A. Your body is in major cleansing/fat burning mode and you are releasing toxins. Because of this your body heat will gravitate to the major internal organs to protect them, and limit the amount of body heat going to your extremities.Put on extra layers this will usually pass after your two day cleanse. You can warn (not HOT!) your Cleanse for Life drink.

Q. I am experiencing constipation. What should I do?

A. First of all, make sure that you are drinking enough water. Remember to drink half of your body weight in ounces of pure, plain water each and every day. Also, make sure that you are taking enough IsaFlush! You can safely take up to six IsaFlush! capsules per day. If you do increase your dose to four or more, you may want to split the quantity into morning and evening doses. In addition, include more fiber in your diet. FiberPro can be added to one or both of your shakes (one scoop per shake). You can also take advantage of FiberSnacks! and SlimCakes. If constipation persists, try having one or two servings of Isagenix Greens each day on an empty stomach. Q. My face, chest and arms are blotchy red. My skin feels hot and itchy, almost like a sunburn. Am I having an allergic reaction? What should I do?

A. More than likely, what you are experiencing is known as a niacin flush. Since the Cleanse for Life, Ionix Supreme, and Natural Accelerator all contain niacin (vitamin B3), it is possible to have a niacin flush after consuming these products. Niacin acts as a vasodilator and will dilate the blood vessels closest to the skin’s surface. This can cause a “flush,” which looks and feels like a sunburn. The skin can become hot, itchy, and red. It typically won’t last more than a half hour or so, and the most important thing to realize is that there is nothing unsafe about it. It’s a completely natural reaction to niacin. If this happens, drink plenty of water and know that it’s nothing to be afraid of. If you are not sure whether you are experiencing a niacin flush as opposed to an actual allergic reaction (which may include symptoms such as hives, skin redness, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, nausea, or palpitations), be sure to check with your doctor. If you experience an allergic reaction to any Isagenix product, please discontinue the product.

What is a Niacin Flush?

Many people have experienced the annoying, sometimes downright painful sensation of niacin flush at least once during their life, and probably didn’t even know what it was.

Niacin, by nature, is a great way of reducing your cholesterol. Many over-the-counter cholesterol medications include high does of niacin, among other ingredients. However, one of the unfortunate side effects of taking doses of niacin is the effect explained below, called “niacin flush“.

Niacin causes your capillaries (small blood vessels) in your body to get wider (bigger). The capillaries are usually extremely small and blood passes through them very slowly. The inherent problem with this is that capillaries are the main way for your body to rid itself of toxins. Your arteries, in comparison, are much larger than capillaries and can carry more blood and at a faster rate, but they do not come near the majority of your body. Arteries are the “highways” of your body and capillaries are more like the small town road that you exit off of the highway from in order to get to your house. Your house, in this example, would be a cell somewhere in a remote part of your body that is full of toxins. Without sufficient blood flow (oxygen, and everything that comes along with it), this cell cannot rid itself of its’ toxins. Now, imagine your city widening the road that leads by your house — the traffic would increase right and they would probably increase the speed limit from 25 to say 45 or 50 right? Well, the same is true for your capillaries! They will carry more blood, and at a faster rate. The end result is that your cells now have more blood to rid themselves of toxins throughout your body as the capillaries get wider!

How does this relate to niacin flush, you ask? Simple. Niacin causes the capillaries to get bigger, and the end result is the “flush”. The increase in size of your capillaries causes, in some cases, a redness on your skin in the areas that it is occurring. This is the first part of niacin flush. The second reaction of niacin flush is the annoying, and sometimes painful itch that comes along with it. This itch is actually healthy! The reason you are experiencing this itch is because the niacin has allowed more blood to reach your cells to remove toxins from them. As toxins are carried away and your cell becomes healthier, it is finally able to “call” your body for help! Your body responds by sending what is called a histamine to the cell. Histamines cause you to itch, but they also allow your body to send more water, blood, and nutrients to the area that called them.

To sum it all up, the niacin flush is actually a very healthy reaction from your body! You shouldn’t be alarmed when you get it; actually the very opposite! It means your body is healing itself. You’ll notice that after a certain dosage of niacin that eventually you will not receive the niacin flush any longer. Once you up the dosage, you may experience it again. Your doctor can recommend a good healthy dosage for you.

I hope this helps clear up the common misconception that niacin is actually harming your body. So, when you get it, try to sit back, relax, cope with the short annoyance that it causes, and think about the GOOD that it is doing for your body. Remember, it WILL GO AWAY!
